You like Christian?”

“Not Christian, but guys like Christian. You see I came to this reunion to try to find out if any of my crushes liked me. I used to like Jake Wilder, but he is taken, Gavin is so good looking, but I spoke with him, and he left without asking for my number. My last hope is Jeff Morris. Do you remember him?”

  Breanne quickly jumped in,

  “He was friends with Christian...”

“Oh, yeah, I do remember Jeff. I never thought about him. I remember he was smart and not really outgoing, but he always seemed focused on his work; charming.”

  Sybil sighed,

“I used to like Christian too. Before you came into the ladies room, who was he with? Was he with that Melanie girl?”

“No, he was with this other girl I’ve never seen before. I don’t think she went to Good Heart High.”

  “Oh. Were they kissing?”

  “No just talking.”

  “Then why are you crying?”

“Just seeing him with someone else makes me weary and hopeless.”

“You have got to be kidding Emma! Do you know what this is? You have got Christian up on a pedestal.”

"What do you mean?" Emma crossed her brows in confusion

"I mean you are gazing at Christian as if he were museum art locked in a glass box on top a pedestal. You have to take him down from the pedestal and become friends with him. He is a real person, not just a picture on top a pedestal — let's get back out there and set you up with Christian, we don’t know if he is taken until we ask.”

Emma placed her hand on Sybil's arm,

“Are you okay with that, or do you still like him.”

“No, I am way passed Christian, you can have him... I'm down with Gavin now. Besides, we’ll let him decide.”

  “That sounds fair.”

“Then let's go find Christian.” Breanne announced.

“Let's go find Christian.” I repeated.

We marched outside the bathroom door on a mission to find Christian Bowers.

Christian was at the bar. He was sitting next to Jeff Morris, as they always did in high school. Breanne was the first to speak,

  “Christian Bowers?”

Christian turned sideways on the bar stool so he was facing us, Jeff did the same,

“That's me. Hi Breanne how are you!?”

“Things are going great, I work at that Lingerie store at the 10th Street Mall, otherwise everything's the same."

“Good to hear. I and Jeff are managers at the Connection Cafe down on 8th street. You guys should come visit us sometime."

“Sounds like a plan what’s your number...”

As Christian and Breanne gabbed, it seemed Breanne lost her focus on the real reason we were talking to Christian. A slow melody started to play. Christian touched Breanne’s arm,

“Hey Breanne, do you want to dance?”

They gazed into each other's eyes. A gaze that reminded me of how Daria and Jake gazed at each other in high school before they were married,

  “Sure.”

Christian laced fingers with Breanne as he led her to the dance floor. We drooled watching them dance song after song after song after song.

  Sybil touched Emma’s shoulder,

“I’m sorry Emma; I guess it just was not meant to be. The same thing happened to me in high school; I fell for Christian and he never noticed me.”

  “It's okay, thanks though.”

“I’m going to take off now, see if I can catch up with Gavin and Paige. Are you sure you are okay?”

  “Fine, you go ahead.”

“I’ll talk to you later”, Sybil said as she and Emma briefly embraced

Jeff returned to the bar with two drinks

“Can I interest you ladies in a drink”, he said placing two glasses on the table.

  “Oh thanks”

  “Thank you”

“So did you meet a lot of people here tonight?”

Emma and I looked at each other,

  “We actually just met tonight”

“There is a first time for everything.”

“Why don’t I give you guys my card, I am one of the managers at the Connection Cafe. I and Christian are the managers. You guys should drop in and say hello sometime.”

Jeff gave Emma a card then accidently dropped the card he handed to me,

“Oh that’s okay I’ll get it...”

We both bent down to pick up the card. We touched hands on the way up. My stomach churned butterflies. It was that moment, I knew this would not be the last time I would see Jeff.
